The Effects of Family Play Therapy for Parent-children Interaction on the Mother-child Interaction and Mother's Parenting Attitude: Focusing on Mother-child Group Homes

Abstract
This study tested the effects that family play therapy for parent-children interaction exerts on changes in the mother-child interaction and parenting attitude. The subjects of the study were five families with a mother and children who live in mother-child group homes in the Seoul metropolitan region, and who had difficulty in using interacting using the Marschak Interaction Method (MIM), which was used as a pre-program assessment. Based on the family play therapy for parent-children interaction program, as developed by Hyun Sunwoo (2013), the program was organized into total of 8 sessions. To verify the effect, the examiner performed a qualitative analysis on the change process. Additionally, to evaluate the difference between pre and post interaction, this examiner conducted an evaluation using the Parenting Attitude Test (PAT) and family play. The findings of this study were as follows. Firstly, it drove the changes in emotional interaction, parent-directed interaction and child-directed interaction. Secondly, There were changes in the mother`s parenting attitude. It improved supportive expression and rational expression in the mother`s parenting attitude while diminishing high involvement and inconsequence by ther child. This shows that family play therapy for parent-children interaction is effective in promoting mother-child bonding and positive interaction is effective in changing the mother`s parenting attitude.
